Willie Nelson Pleads Guilty to 2-Pounds of Drugs, Gets Misdemeanor Fine
Last September state troopers boarded the redheaded stranger’s tour bus only to find, no surprise, approximately one pound each of marijuana and magic mushrooms. Normally this would be a serious felony drug charge, but for Willie Nelson the “personal use” defense seems to have worked. After all, who doesn’t know that Willie smokes mad bags of tobacky most wacky?
Willie Nelson and tour manager Dave Anderson each entered guilty pleas, with Nelson’s sister and two bus drivers’ charges dropped. Nelson and Anderson each face a maximum fine of $1,024 and no possibility of jail time. That’s less expensive than the rolly-papers it would take to fire up a bag of that size.
Nelson has yet to issue a formal press release on the outcome, but was glad to meet with the swarm of as many as two-dozen fans who turned up in support. It is believed that Nelson’s sentence was light due to his previous public service campaign in which he urged mamas to not let their babies grow up to be cowboys. Almost equally likely is that the judge reduced the sentence in exchange for smoking dope with the country star on the roof of the white house. If not, he may be the only man in the country who has yet to do so.
