The Liza Minnelli Story: A Play in One Act

“Mommy?”
“Yes, Liza.”
“Can I wear whatever I want?”
“No, Liza, you must dress appropriately for each occasion.”
“What does ‘appropriately’ mean?”
“That means that your attire will conform in part to precedented social standards, with innovation anchored by tradition.”
“Oh, I see. When can I wear sheer nylon veils around each leg that look like tubes?”
“Liza, don’t talk that way…”
“I want to wear floppy tubes around my legs…”
“Liza! No!”
“…and I will be like a beekeeper, except with mosquitoes, and I’ll have a whole colony of mosquitoes that I care for but they will never bite me because of my pants that look like tubes…”
“Liza…[sobbing]”
“…and I’ll collect their mosquito honey and put it in my hair. Oh, and I’ll shoot lasers out of my fingers.”
“[sobbing]”
The End
