Robin Williams Sober 10 Months, Not Funny 10 Years
Robin Williams, who has not been the least bit funny since “Jack” in 1996, apparently hasn’t been the least bit drunk since August, when he announced that he was entering an alcohol treatment program. In August, his spokeswoman said he had “found himself drinking again” after two decades of sobriety.
Robin Williams said, “Honesty is the best thing and he did it great in dealing with it. That’s the hardest thing of all, admitting ‘I have a problem.” Adding, “It’s nice to know there are others out there, including [San Francisco] mayor [Gavin Newsome, who recently admitted he was also seeking alcohol treatment].”
Williams joked about his recovery during an award acceptance speech at the San Francisco Film Society saying, “It’s a great honor to be honored by a festival sponsored by a vodka company. Just out of rehab, it’s always good to go right to a place with a bottle of Skyy on every table.”
