Pop Singer Brandy Goes Three for Three in Wrongful Death Lawsuits

People die in accidents every day, and that’s a tragedy nobody can deny, but when a loved one dies in an instance surrounded, even if just peripherally, by somebody with a lot of money, it can mean that the wake is more fun than the life they shared. Top off the equation with California’s liberal liability laws and penchant for absurd jury awards and you’ve got a recipe for a lifetime of riches beyond imagination, at least, that is, if your accident happened to include Moesha star Brandy.

Grammy-winner Brandy was absolved of wrong-doing early on by police reports and a criminal judge, but once the husband of then-deceased Awatef Aboudihaj realized the erstwhile “America’s Got Talent” judge was party to the accident, it was all “singer’s got money” from there out.

The widower claims that Brandy Norwood (and other motorists involved) were “traveling too fast for conditions” at the time and were also “following too closely,” which resulted in the fatal injuries to his late wife.

The victim’s parents have already sued for $50 million, with another suit of equal weight filed on behalf of her two surviving children. The city attorney is still deciding whether to charge Brandy with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, but if convicted, she could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Hdidou’s wrongful-death and vehicle negligence complaint seeks unspecified damages from the defendants, including medical and funeral expenses, legal fees and a litany of other punitive damages, plus, since she was a “faithful and dutiful” wife, he is also asking for additional damages to compensate for the deprivation of “support, maintenance, solace, moral support, companionship and comfort” that the 38-year-old waitress apparently provided him.
