Pop Singer Amy Grant Jumps to EMI, for Christ Sake
After 30-years with Warners-owned Word Records, Christian music diva Amy Grant has jumped ship and shark for EMI Christian Music Group’s Sparrow label to include her entire historical catalog, plus all of her new, equally intolerable music as well. Amy Grant signed with the Word label in October of 1976, just one month shy of her 16th birthday, but from here on out, it’s all EMI.
Grant said, “I had a great run with Word and still love the people there… But I feel like EMI is uniquely outfitted to do great things for [my library of existing music]. And I’ve known the [president and CEO of EMI Christian Music Group] and his father for over 25 years. There’s a comfort level there.”
Grant has always retained ownership of her master recordings, for the love of God, so her ability to bring her catalog in tow added tremendous financial value to the deal, in the name of all things holy. She has sold more than 30-million copies for the label, while earning six Grammy awards and 21 Dove awards.
EMI already has the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Bob Seger, Frank Sinatra and other countless other libraries of works. They already have planned a DVD of Grant’s music videos, concerts, and other “behind the scenes” works as well.
