House M.D. Greeted with Sword, Knighted but not Beheaded
Hugh Laurie was invited to Buckingham palace to meet with Queen Elizabeth II in order to be knighted, much like every Englishman to acquire fame since pretty much forever. It’s an elite club, since it requires you to first be British, but no less, the dramatic comedian has earned his serious stripes with the Queen’s English palace these days.
Laurie has been awarded the OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) since royal officials revealed in December that he had been given the particular award for his acting achievements, not the least of which is his role on House MD, in which he makes even the most intelligent and appealing of Americans come off as dope-addled, irrational, insensitive jerkwads. Good work for any Englishman, for sure.
The 47-year-old star won two Golden Globes and has been Emmy-nominated for his unbelievably successful “House, MD” series, despite his works in “Stuart Little” and “Sense and Sensibility”, not to mention the terrible travesties exacted in with comedy partner Stephen Fry in the 1980s with the comedy series comedy “Blackadder”, despite working alongside the equally ho-hum Emma Thompson.
Laurie now spends the majority of his time in Los Angeles adding more wealth to the purse of the indomitable pockets of Rupert Murdoch, who plainly needs more riches to buy up greater percentages of the world news market.
