Of all the absurd celebrity baby names going out these days, it’s easy to overlook Melanie Brown’s odd choice. Easily overshadowed by Gwyneth’s baby Apple or actor/magician Penn Jillette’s Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette, Scary Spice’s baby isn’t set to fare much better.

Brown gave birth April 3rd to Angel Iris Murphy Brown, explaining, “Angel, as she was my little angel through my pregnancy. Iris, as it’s my grandma’s name, Murphy because [Eddie Murphy is] the dad, and Brown, because I’m the Mum.”

Actor Eddie Murphy has not publicly conceded paternity of the child.

But wasn’t Murphy Brown just Candace Bergan in the 80s? Why couldn’t she have called her Angel Iris Scary, that wouldn’t have been much worse. At least then people would know who she’s named after. It’s not like anybody knows that Iris was the lady famous for raising a “Scary” grand-daughter who slept with that guy from The Nutty Professor.
