Avril Lavigne Finds Chinese Hardest to Digest

Of all the silly publicity gimmicks musicians have employed to sell more records, few have been quite as ambitious as what Avril Lavigne has pulled off. The chorus of her new single “Girlfriend” will be released in eight different languages based on her biggest sales markets. Of all of them, apparently Mandarin Chinese was the hardest to wrap her lips around.

The chorus to “Girlfriend” was recorded in English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese and Mandarin.

The Canadian pop star told reporters at a Hong Kong press conference that, “The hardest one was actually Mandarin. Japanese was easy, sort of. French was easy, but German was difficult. But it was cool to record it in different languages because I have so many fans worldwide that speak all these languages. So I’m glad I did it.”

Of course, having chewed on Chinese, it only left her hungry for another language a half hour later. Her new album, “The Best Damn Thing”, allegedly has no connection to Tom Arnold, former star of “Best Damn Sports Show”.
